Gross Domestic Product

Real gross domestic product (GDP) grew at an annual rate of 2.0 percent in the third quarter of 2010, according to today’s advance estimate. This follows a 1.7 percent growth rate in the second quarter.

Midwest Aluminum ingot at $1.1289/lb. Building permits in September 2010 were 539,000, down 5.6% from August and down 10.9% from September 2009. Housing starts were 610,000, up 0.3% from last month and up 4.1% from one year ago.

Interesting Numbers

New orders for manufactured goods in August 2010 decreased 0.5% from July, to $408.9 billion. Shipments declined 0.6%, to $415.1 billion; unfilled orders were virtually unchanged at $804.0 billion; and inventories increased 0.1%, to $526.4 billion in August.
