Uses

What can be done with slit coil?

Sorry, forgot to mention that. The applications are endless. Wherever metal is needed there is usually an application for slit coil. A few years back when automobiles used metal decorative trim, it was all about metal - people loved the look. Refrigerators use metal trim, in fact aluminum is all the rage now because it has that polished look and is light-weight. Metal is used to build homes in order to protect them from strong winds, hurricanes, and flooding. Builders are choosing to use metal that won't corrode or rust, which is typically an aluminum product. Brass and copper are used in jewelry applications, as well as electrical components due to its conductivity.

Fuel cells are being developed using slit coil metal. Stampers, roll-formers, & tube producers all use coil metal extensively. Here are just a few of the many applications:
  • Fan blades
  • Automobile mufflers
  • Swimming pool fixtures
  • Light fixtures
  • Casket liners
  • Silverware
  • Clad pots & pans
  • Heat shields
  • Window & door components
  • Aircraft parts
  • Architectural trim
  • Car & Truck wheel covers
  • Roof drainage
  • Transportation equipment
  • Food processing equipment
  • Pharmaceutical equipment
  • Hot water tanks
  • Manifolds
  • Refrigeration liners
  • Storm shutters
  • Fuel tanks
  • Boats & furniture equipment
  • License plates
  • Hand tools
  • Metal tags
  • Axles
  • Railway wheels & tracks
  • Cable wire

Experiment

What I hope will be the first of many blogs. I am experimenting to see what happens when I blog about Almetals, Inc., an award-winning coil metals processing service center. Almetals, Inc. slits coil aluminum, brass, copper, stainless steel, coated steel, painted steel, cold rolled, and fin stock.

Almetals, Inc. is located in Wixom, Michigan and Austell, Georgia. Almetals equipment can process over 200,000,000 pounds (90,000,000 kgs) of slit coil annually. Slitting is a process used to cut a wide coil of metal into a number of narrower coils, as the main coil is moved through the slitter machine. It really is interesting to see the machines able to literally cut through metal. The multiple slitting lines enable Almetals to slit material .002" - .190" (0.508 mm - 4.826 mm) thick and in widths ranging from .250" -60" (6.365 mm - 1524 mm) thus allowing Almetals to be your one stop processor.

While Almetals, Inc. sells aluminum, brass, copper, stainless steel, coated steel, painted steel, cold rolled, and fin stock, they also can simply slit metal that someone already has in their possession. A customer does not have to buy the metal and have it slit at either of our facilities, they can simply buy the metal or buy it and have it slit by Almetals, or send your coil metal on a truck to Almetals to be slit in our facility.

The following capabilities are also offered by Almetals:
Precision Slitting
Gamma Ray Gauge Monitoring
Protective Film Application
Paper Interleaving
Toll Processing

Almetals quality system is registered to
